Kose SOFTYMO Deep Cleansing Oil Review

Cheap, effective, and (possibly) available locally, I've come to understand why Kose's SOFTYMO Deep Cleansing oil is so well loved..

Where to get it:
prettyandcute.com $12.99 for 230ml
sasa.com $13.30 for 230ml
imomoko.com $12.90 for 230ml
Various Amazon and Ebay sellers as well!

Also, many Asian markets carry it! So you might be able to find it locally if you have one near you! ~

Description: Kose Cosmeport Softymo Deep Cleansing Oil is a rinse off makeup cleansing oil that removes all types of makeup, impurities within pores, and corrects uneven skin tone. Orange oil and rice bran oil naturally brightens skin tone for a truly radiant and even toned complexion. This oil-based cleanser locks in moisture and leaves it clean and soft without feeling dry or tight. (from prettyandcute.com)

Claims to:
~ Cleanse (as one would hope)
~ Soften
~ Even out skintone
~ Non-drying

Ingredients: rice bran oil, mineral oil, sorbeth-30 tetraoleate, triethylhexanoine, cyclomethicone, orange oil, tocopherol, jojoba seed oil, glycerin, polyglyceryl-2 diisostearate, trilaureth-4 phosphate, water, phenoxyethanol

Packaging: Nothing special, a fairly standard quality plastic bottle with a decent pump. You can easily control how little or how much you want out of it, so that's really nice C:

My revision outfit.

Scent: Extremely mild citrus/orange scent to it. I can just barely smell it, and only initially  I'm fairly certain that the smell is due to the fact that the product uses orange oil in the blend, haha. Anyway, I can't imagine anyone having a problem with the smell, especially since it's not artificial?

How to use it & Results: Just in case some of you aren't familiar with cleansing oils, I wrote up a mini-guide! You can find how-to's all over the net, though.

Anyway
1) Pump some onto your dry hands
2) Rub it together between your palms to warm it up
3) Begin massaging it into your dry, still makeup'd face. You can do this for however long you want, I usually do about a minute. Some do longer. If you focus on your nose (gently!!!!!) you can loosen up any blackheads or sebaceous filaments you have (they will feel gritty, like sand). Make sure to massage your nose gently, as you don't want to cause any broken capillaries. You don't have to do this, of course, but it's worth trying if you're interested.
4) Wash your hands of the oil, and with your hands still wet massage the oil a bit more. Once it gets in contact with the water, the oil will become milky. You can keep adding more water to your hands until it's all washed off, or just splash your face a few times.
5) Now you will have soft and cleansed skin, mostly free of makeup yayyyy!!

I always follow oil cleansing up with a foaming cleanser for some double cleansing action!

Anyway, on to my actual review.
It's really good. It cleanse your skin well without clogging your pores or leaving your skin shiny or dry or anything else really. Your skin just feels soft and cleansed! It does a good job of getting rid of most makeup, though (as you will see below) you will probably want to use some normal -remover before hand, especially if you have stubborn eyeliner. I don't know if it actually did any tone-evening, because I use a bunch of products that help with that. But you can see for yourself how Kose's Deep Cleansing Oil performs otherwise ~

1) I didn't really know what to test, so... we will see how it works on Nyx's jumbo eye Pencil, Tony Moly's Cat Wink mascara, and Dolly Wink's liquid eyeliner.

2) The oil is on!

3) Massaging it in, no water yet!

4) Added some water!

5) Everything but the Dolly Wink eyeliner was removed with ease! Hmm. Let's try this again, with another kind of eyeliner this time.

6) Okay- I put some random Clinique liquid eyeliner above it. We will see how it holds up to the might of oil cleansing.

7) Oiled up.

8) The Clinique eyeliner is totally gone... but it might be hopeless for the Dolly Wink eyeliner.

In conclusion, Dolly Wink's eyeliner is impressively stubborn and can only be removed with dedicated  eye-makeup remover. Kose's SOFTYMO Deep Cleansing oil is excellent for most other things though.

Conclusion: Final score 4.9/5

Pros
  • significantly cheaper than similar quality cleansing oils
  • works very well
  • leaves skin feeling soft and clean
  • does a good job of removing most makeup
Cons
  • can't remove the incredibly tough stuff by itself

  4. This was very helpful for me too, I've been interested in trying this one out, and it looked like a good value but you can never be sure what kind of power it has in cleansing. It was thorough of you to show us with the makeup! Poor Dolly Wink, can't be removed without eye makeup remover though!!
