Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream Review

Super effective, cheap, and cute- what's not to love about this amazing product? (hint: very little)

Where to buy:
testerkorea.com $5.87
koreadepart.com $4.45
roseroseshop.com $5.70
f2plus1 on Ebay - $10.99 for two

Description: Mizon Multi Function Formula Snail Recovery Gel Cream is a lightweight gel type cream that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Its gel like consistency allows it to penetrate deeper than traditional creams and leaves a light bare feeling. Although light in texture, this cream is highly effective, containing 74% snail slime extract. Snail slime extract promotes the production of collagen, allowing it to plump existing wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. Use this moisturizer to create a more youthful and radiant complexion today! (from prettyandcute.com)

Claims to
 light weight
reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
 gel texture
 74% snail mucin extract
 promotes collagen production

Ingredients:Snail secretion filtrate, butylene glycol, cyclopentasiloxane, glycerin, Bis-peg-18 methyl ether, dimethyl silane, polysorbate2-, sodium hyaluronate, carbomer, glycosyl trehalose, hydrogenated starch hydolsyate, triethanolamine, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, dimethicone, hydroxyethylcellulose, caprylyl glyocol, ethylhexylglycerin, sodium polyacrylate, centella asiatica extract, portulaca oleracea extract, camellias sinensis leaf extract, nelumbo nucifera flower extract, betula platylphylla japonica juice, tropolone, copper tripeptide-1, allantoin, panthenol, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4, adenosine, disodium edta

Scent:
 Absolutely no scent at all!

Packaging: I think they figured out the perfect shade of pink~ it's adorable on my counter without being twee (not that I find that to be a bad thing [cute4lyf], but some people do). The plastic of the tube itself is decently thick, but you can generally squeeze it enough to get the last bit of gel out without too much trouble. It can kind of 'dent' easily, but that's not a big deal to me.

The opening is fine. Hygienic. I have no real comments about it, so whatevzzz. The top is screwed on, and is thoroughly unextraordinary.

Neat little Mizon seal!

Swatch: As you can tell, it lives up to its name- though it's a lot more gel than it is cream. It's quite 'watery' as you can see in the 'immediately after' picture. You don't need a lot to cover your face, and it absorbs after maybe 3 or so minutes. A very light but effective gel, perfect for the summer!

3-4 minutes after

Results: This was so, so much more effective than the previous snail mucin product I tried- Bio-Essence's Snail Secretion Repair Serum, due in part (I believe!) to how much more snail mucin this product has in comparison! Anyway, basically everything boils down to the fact that snail mucin is magic and helps my skin look really really nice. The very first night I used this, I woke up to even toned, nice looking skin- but that's not all! o:

I've been using this basically every day since I got in in early June, and I'm so so pleased with it. I rarely get pimples now, but when I do this greatly speeds up the process- cutting the healing process down to just a few days! Additionally, my skin is more evenly toned in general, my post acne hyperpigmentation fades more quickly, and my skin just looks nicer overall. I adore this.

Believe it or not, there have been studies on the efficacy of snail mucin in skincare- see here for more info (shout out to Kerry for taking the time to do research!!)! Essentially, it helps your skin recover... in the study's case, from sun damaged skin. However, I've found that it helps your skin recover from more than just that! As stated above, it helps speed up acne healing and scarring. In combination with regular lactic acid product use, my post-acne marks are significantly faded in just a couple of weeks... compared to the 6+ months it would take without using products.

Literally the only negative thing about this product iiiiis how quickly I use it up. :( It's not a huge tube, and regular use of it means that I've gotten about 5 (maybe 6 tops) weeks use out of it. It's okay because it's pretty cheap, but keep that in mind in case you don't want to deal with overseas shipping.

Conclusion: Final Score: 5/5

Pros:
  • non-scented
  • cute packaging
  • high snail mucin content (74%)
  • effective (reduced redness, helps get rid of pimples, fades scarring, generally makes my skin look good)
  • light but moisturizing
  • cheap!!!
Cons:
  • used up quickly

    1. depends on the day! sometimes i'll use it twice a day and others just once :D i might use it to 'seal in' all my steps at night if i need a little extra moisture, but not always! i use it most mornings just as a light moisturizer before makeup~

  6. I've just started using this, and my experience has been similar. My acne is getting better, my hyperpigmentation is fading, and it is moisturizing but not oily, which is awesome for summer!

  16. Should I combine this product with the mizon snail cream or ampoule? I bought a set of this product: cream, ampoule, gel, foam... How to use all of these products..

    Thank you

    1. You definitely could! You would cleanser first (foam), then use the mizon all-in-one snail cream (it's a skin treatment, not a moisturizer), then use a toner, then use the ampoule, then use the recovery gel to seal it all in! C:

  17. hi , thanks for the review, I just wanted to ask how do you know it is best to use it to seal all other treatments ? I would think it'll be best directly on the skin without barriers, what am I not getting...?
In addition - did you use any other products from this range ?
    thank you !

    1. i don't 100% know that it's best to do it my way, but i've found that it works well both practically (where the texture fits best with my products) and in terms of results. As for it being best directly on the skin, it is directly on the skin :) It sinks in and is absorbed completely, so it's not like my skin is missing any of the benefits. The only time I can think of a moisturizer being a real barrier for a product is with something like a retinal, but snail mucin isn't an active ingredient (nor is it as strong) like retinal. I occasionally use the all-in-one cream as well, which is a treatment :D

However, I'm currently using the Benton snail bee line, which has an essence and cream that are something like 90% snail mucin. It's quite a nice line, I'll be reviewing it once I can get a camera again. Thanks for the comment C:

  19. Hi! I have a few questions! have you used anything else from Mizon's reepair line? If you did could you tell me what you liked the most in order? Also, which one would you recommend, the Mizon line or benton's ? Thank you :)

    1. Hi! I have used their eye cream and that all-in-one cream as well. I liked the eye cream, it was simple but helped reduce fine lines and hydrate the area. I think that Benton is better for acne, and Mizon is better for general glowing skin.

  21. I am sooooooooo tempted to try this! I just don't want to use something when the snails had to suffer for it. Do you happen to know if this is cruelty-free?
